VA Announces Rollout and Application Process for New Veterans ID Card

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced that the application process for the national Veterans Identification Card (VIC) is now available for Veterans — yet another action honoring their service.

This has been mandated through legislation since 2015 to honor Veterans, and today’s rollout of the ID card fulfills that overdue promise.

Jake Alarid, Past AGIF National Commander and California State Commander Remembered

Jake Alarid had passed away on Monday, May 3rd. Jake, a Marine Veteran was a member of the American GI Forum for many years. I first met Jake in the early 70’s and we enjoyed a long friendship. He had been introduced to me by another late friend, Leo Avila. Jake was a member of the El Camino Real Chapter in Southern California.

Jake served the American GI Forum as local chair, State Chair and National Commander. It was during his term as National Commander that the Coors Boycott ended. The boycott had been over, but several states including  … read more

Albert Gonzales:  October 19, I951 – May 7, 1021

Albert earned his wings on May 7th at home surrounded by his family. Albert was a caring and loving family man who devoted his time to his granddaughter’s hockey games. As he always said, “number 6 on the ice but number I in my heart.”

Albert and his family moved to Colorado Springs in 1979 where he worked as a communications technician for Qwest. He participated in the company bowling and golf leagues. After 30 years of service, Albert retired. Upon retirement in 2003, Albert contributed his time to the Colorado Springs Community. He served on various city committees advocating and searching for solutions to problems that affected minorities md veterans. … read more
